Our Team

We are a BIPOC team of people passionate about equitable access to becoming a midwife and supporting the families and babies in our communities.

Mika Cade

Founding Board Member - Mika Cade is passionate about providing full-spectrum reproductive support to people in the Bay Area. She began her work as a doula in 2014 and started her midwifery training in 2022. She is currently attending the National Midwifery Institute, providing doula support, and teaching about all things perinatal related. Mika is the mother of two children, both born at home and enjoys reading fantasy novels, knitting, and all things crafty in her free time.

Sonia Lizama

Board Member - Sonia is a full-spectrum doula and student midwife. She is currently enrolled at Midwives College of Utah. Sonia is passionate about birth work and making it accessible to BIPOC communities to reduce health disparities and improve birth and health outcomes. She believes the perinatal period is a sacred and transformative time, and that everyone deserves informed, quality care.

Nakia Woods

Board Member - Nakia is a Black, Queer, Birthworker and student Midwife offering support to birthing folks across the Bay Area. They believe that all people deserve to birth in ways that feel comfortable and safe for them, whether that's medicated or unmedicated, at a hospital or at home. Their commitment is to provide affirming care and support all types of families through a holistic approach. Originally from San Diego, Nakia has been thriving in the Bay area for over a decade. In their spare time, they love to read trashy books, interact with all things Harry Potter, and constantly change their social media accounts from private to public.

Krista Luna

Board Member - Krista Luna is passionate about improving systems all around her. One area close to her heart is access to empathetic and meaningful pregnancy to birth.

Mother of two boys and champion of breaking large situations into action steps.

Jenny Drummond

Board Member - Jenny is a Black and chicana cancer and dv survivor living her best life in the Bay. After having her first child delivered by a doctor in a hospital, Jenny had the great fortune to have her second delivered by a midwife at home. The difference in the levels of care she received pre- and post-partum was mind boggling. She wishes that all pregnant people (especially BIPOC folks) in the Bay Area had access to such incredible care. In order to do that, there need to be more BIPOC midwives.

Evaly Long

Founding Board Member - Evaly is a community midwife who mostly attends births at home. She tries to always hold the pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum journey in the highest honor by listening to what is being said and unsaid by her clients. She also has witnessed what a difference compassionate and respectful care can make in the lives of families in this community. This is especially true for BIPOC communities who have been harmed by the racist systems that do not honor their lives or contributions. She believes this fund is one way to restore health, safety, respect, and love among the BIPOC families of the SF Bay Area by helping more midwives serve clients who identify with and have the same experiences as them.

Evaly has three kids - twin teen daughters born in the hospital, and an eight year old son born at home surrounded by midwives and family. She enjoys digging holes at the beach with her son, finding thrifted sweaters with her daughters, and dancing to house music with her husband. You can always find her with a knitting project in her bag.
